Top of the Mic Rules:
After much consideration from contestants feedback from last Top of the Mic we will be having Top of the Mic - Bands only for the Fall. This spring we will be having a Top of the Mic Singer/ Songwriter competition.
· Open to any musical genre, but material must be suitable for general audience.
· Absolutely no obscene or offensive lyrics will be allowed. Also, indecent or obscene gestures will not be permitted. Points will be deducted from your score.
· We will supply sound equipment and drum set. Musicians will provide all other instruments.
· Musicians must perform by self, i.e. no recorded music is allowed.
· Musicians selected to compete will play one 20 minute set and will be prepared to play again on a Saturday evening. If you or your band makes it into the finals, be prepared to play a live performance at Sean Kelly’s at a later date.
· Each band will be responsible for keeping track of their own time. Judges will also be keeping track for their records. Points will be deducted for playing over the time limit.
· Musicians selected to compete will be notified by October 1st, 2010 and will be included in the event promotion after that date.
· Musicians in violation of eligibility requirement will be disqualified and any prize monies will be forfeited.
· Sean Kelly’s Public House is not responsible for damage or theft of personal property.
· Abuse or theft of the provided equipment will result in immediate disqualification and reparation to the equipment providers.
· All entries must be received by September 30th, 2010
· Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
· It is the band’s responsibility to set gear and be ready to perform with in the allotted time.
· Popular vote will have 1/4 of total decision
· Employees of Sean Kelly’s are ineligible to enter the event.
· Top of the Mic is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is somebody without a major label recording contract.
· Bands/ Musicians and accompanying personnel are expected to cooperate with the event organizers and venue at all times, any verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated. Event Organizers and venue includes all staff (i.e. Sean Kelly’s employees, judges). Offenders will be removed from the premises.
· The event organizers reserve the right to disqualify any band that is observed to be behaving in an uncompetitive or inappropriate manner.
Top of the MicJudging:
A panel of judges will score musicians using a point system. Each act will be judged on the following criteria:
· Stage presence- Appearance, appropriate material
· Time- Use of time (15 minutes)
· Originality- quality of original material and/or interpretation of cover tunes.
· Musical ability- Vocal/ instrumental skill, intonation, complexity of music
· Customer approval- Applause, overall enthusiasm, and their votes.
PRIZES
v Grand Prize is a $1000.00 paid to musician or musicians after a scheduled live performance.
v Second Prize is a paid scheduled live performance of $300.00
v Third Prize is a paid scheduled live performance of $200.00
